Moon Monday

We started and will end our day learning more about the Lunar New Year, which began on Sunday. Today we also...

  • introduced a new selection of text in My View: Butterfly Eyes and Other Tales from the Forest. Students will come home with a "preview" sheet this evening.

  • read and listened to the text

  • responded to the text, recording observations, generating questions, and making connections.

  • enjoyed browsing a Lunar New Year Virtual Bookshelf.

  • went to Mandarin

  • had math and Science with Ms. Hicks

For the next few weeks, we will be learning about literary devices such as imagery, metaphor and onomatopoeia. We will compare poetry to prose, and we will even memorize and perform poems.

Here are two projects that are on the horizon:

*The Poetry Project: Students will memorize one of the "Butterfly Eyes" poems and will complete an art project. Details coming soon.

*The Black Leadership Project: Wax Museum, Speech, Stamp Art and Opinion Essay. Directions for this big project will go home this week. The project will be due at the end of February. Parents will be invited to our culminating event: The Black Leadership Wax Museum. Dates will be announced this week!

Any missing work from Q3 must be turned in by this Friday. Progress Reports will go home in early February!
